Henry R. Mcshane, Us Navy, Retired Commander

Henry R. McShane, US NAVY, Retired Commander Henry McShane died early on the morning of June 3, 2014 at Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro, SC after a long illness. He is a former Navy Pilot, serving the reserves for 22 years and in the Korean Conflict. He is the son of William H. McShane and Frances Rayeur McShane, and born in Hamburg, NY on October 15, 1928. He worked in the Bethlehem Steel Mills from 1947 to 1961. He was an agent for New England Life Insurance from 1961-1965. He later joined Bristol Meyers Co., in the Clairol Division and retired from the company after 25 years. He is a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church where he served as a greeter along with his wife, and is a member of the Veterans Association of Sun City Hilton Head and of the American Legion of New York. Henry loved building model airplanes and flying them and has a display of theses skills hanging in his garage to be admired by friends and family. He is predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Adelaide McShane, his son, Billy McShane, his sister, Molly Fenger, a brother Bob McShane and his niece, Susie McShane. Surviving him are his loving wife, Phyllis Saraf McShane, son, Jerry McShane (Laura) of Eden, NY, daughters, Alison Edgerton (Jeff) and Shiela Able (Ron). Also surviving are his stepchildren, George Tabakian (Sancil), John Tabakian (Laura), Michael Tabakian (Cyndi), and Charles Tabakian (Stacy) and his stepdaughters are Cindy Strozier (Bobby), and Kathy Tabakian (Tom). He is also Papa to 26 grandchildren and 30 great grands. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC at 10:30 AM. Viewing of the body will be in the church vestibule a half hour before the service. Burial will be private for the family at Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest contributions in his memory to either Wounded Warriors Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to Pope John Paul II Catholic High School Building Fund, P.O.
