Henry Edward Sieban, Jr., lovingly known as “Hank”, born March 3, 1937, passed away at his home in Bluffton, SC at 80 years of age on Monday, September 11, 2017 after a six month battle with cancer.
Hank attended Chaminade High School and Villanova University on a basketball scholarship.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail" and Hank did just that.
As a young boy, Hank served as an altar boy and followed his servitude as a young man. He served as a lifeguard and a firefighter on Long Island, NY. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Floral Park, NY, the President of the Pop Warner Football Association in Wilton, CT, and an active board member of the Free Public Library of Woodbridge, NJ. He worked at Spring Fest in Charlotte, NC and the Special Olympics of Columbus, OH. He truly cared for his communities and tried to be involved wherever possible.
Throughout his entire professional career, Hank worked in the food industry. He started his career with his father’s fruit and vegetable company at Bush Terminal Market, later he joined Louis Sherry, Iroquois Grocery Products, Romanoff International and T. Marzetti Company, where he retired as VP of Operations in 1998.
Hank had a great passion for sports and enjoyed traveling, golfing (especially keeping up with the younger guys), gardening (his tomatoes were a prized pick!) and softball.
During his lifetime, he coached and managed many youth sports programs. When asked about their former coach, many adults look back with smiles on the lessons he taught them both on and off the field.
At Sun City, Hank found a second home on the softball field. He played on the in house and travel teams and managed the Coastal Carolina Hospital team until 2016. Hank's softball skills led him to the Senior Olympics a number of times.
Anyone that met Hank had the first impression that he was a NY giant. Loud and serious, the personality of a lion. In all actuality, Hank was a gentle, kind and passionate man.
In Hank's long life, his greatest passion and pride was his family. He is preceded in death by parents Lillian and Henry E. Sieban, Sr. He leaves behind his loving wife, Margie of 31 years. Daughter Debbie (Gary) Mathews of Charlotte, NC, son, Danny (Jeannine) Sieban of Bethel, CT, daughter, Christine Ciarcia of Pineville, NC, daughter Renee (John) Ribera of Mint Hill, NC and son Hank (Marla) Statscewich of Fairbanks, AK.
He also leaves behind ten grandchildren Jason (Leslie), Jackie, Kellie, Conor, Ashley (JJ) Katelynn, Ava, Lexie, Niah and Callie and four great grandchildren, Vance, McNeil, Sean and Dawson. Brothers, Ed (Carol) Sieban and Robert (Linda) Sieban. First wife, Jean Curry of Shelton, CT. Sister-in-law Carol (Bob)Whitman and brothers-in-law Richard and Royal (Becky) Heinz along with many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
