Herbert Wade Goins, 75, died on May 8, 2017, after a long and heroic battle with cancer. Wade was born in Mountain Ash, Kentucky on October 30, 1941, to the late Stella and Herbert Goins. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served proudly on the aircraft carrier, USS Princeton as a boilermaker. He was employed by Georgia Power /Southern Company in power plants throughout the State of Georgia, starting as an Electrician and progressing to Plant General Manager in Savannah before his retirement after almost 40 years. Subsequently, he was employed as an Engineering and Technical Services Consultant for domestic and international power plants in New York, Maine, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and other locations for five more years before his final retirement in 2006 when he returned to the beautiful lowcountry of South Carolina where he had previously lived on Hilton Head Island for almost a decade. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna, daughter Lynn of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, son Dana (Susan) and grandchildren Ally and Jack of Southport, North Carolina, sister Brenda Bolson of McDonough, Georgia and many other relatives and friends. Of special note are his sister-in-law Paula Stewart (John), brothers-in-law Sam (Cindy), Bob (Carri) and his Monday Golf Group. Wade was pre-deceased by his beloved son, David Wade, in 1992. He will be buried in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Jonesboro, Georgia on Saturday, May 13 at 11:30, at a family graveside service. A memorial service celebrating his life as a follower of Jesus and a "man among men" will be held at Cornerstone Church, Bluffton, South Carolina on Saturday, May 20 at 4:00 with a reception immediately following.
