Howell Dennis "Jiggs" Goethe

Howell Dennis "Jiggs" Goethe of Bluffton, S.C. passed away Saturday May 21, 2022. He was born September 13, 1928 and was raised on the family farm in Bluffton.

He attended Bluffton schools & after graduation he entered the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served till 1950. He returned to Bluffton to the family farm and built his home near his parents. He was proud to be there to help take care of his parents till their deaths.

He went to work at the Shipyards in Savannah and worked there for 15 years before starting work at the Beaufort Air Station for 22 years of service.

After his retirement he enjoyed life on the farm as he grew a large vegetable garden taking pride in the vegetables, he was able to share with family and friends.  He was known for his loving, caring heart.

He loved to sit on the golf cart in the yard under the large trees as he visited with friends & family. At times there would be a circle of golf carts as they gathered to talk and laugh.

It was great to hear him talk of the Bluffton he knew as a boy and grew up in. He knew the roads as oyster shells roads. He remembered the dances at the dock at the end of Calhoun St. & could share wonderful stories. Bluffton was a special place to him and he was happiest right there on the family farm.

He is survived by a sister, Bertha G. Graves of Lady's Island, S.C. many nephews & nieces and special friends.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 25th at 2 pm at Bluffton Cemetery May River Road, Bluffton, SC.
