Hugo Cornelius Johnson Jr., 84, of Hilton Head Island, SC passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at Life Care Center of Hilton Head.He was born October 14, 1925 in Buffalo, NY. He was the son of the late Hugo and Mae Gibson Johnson. He worked for the United States Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA from 1950-1976. He served in various positions from 1950-1959, was the Assistant Director of New Product Development from 1959-1964, and was Director of New Product Development Division from 1964-1976. He worked for Dravo Corporation Engineers and Constructors in Pittsburgh, PA as General Development Manager from 1976-1982.He graduated from M.I.T. with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1946, from Ohio State University with a M.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1948, and from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School) with a M.B.A. in 1950. He served in the Army Air Corps from1946-1947 while stationed at Wright Patterson Research Laboratories.He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the Chemical Marketing Research Association, a past president of M.I.T. Alumni Club, and served as the General Chairman of the National Meeting of the Commercial Development Association in 1975. He moved to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1983 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island.He enjoyed golf, the beach, fine arts, and books.He is survived by three sons, Neil (Kate) Johnson of Okatie, SC, Jonathon (Marlene) Means of Pensacola, FL, and Robert (Christine) Means of Boston, MA; one daughter, Martita Means of Boston, MA; and six grandchildren.He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Jackson Johnson, one brother, Thomas Johnson, and one daughter, Lucinda Means.The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, SC is assisting the family with their arrangements.
