Ida V. “Iekje” Westerman

Ida V. “Iekje” Westerman, age 83, of Hilton Head, SC and formerly of Edenton, NC died Sunday, January 27, 2019 at home.

Mrs. Westerman was born on April 22, 1935 in Paris, France, the daughter of the late Jan and Inge Verschuyl. She attended Tufts University and Katharine Gibbs School. She spent decades volunteering with the elderly, mentally handicapped and the homebound with organizations such as Meals on Wheels. Outside of volunteer work she enjoyed sailing, bridge, tennis, and swimming.

Mrs. Westerman is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Bill Westerman; daughter, Karin Guy (Joseph); sons, Jan Westerman (Shelly), William M. Westerman, Jr. (Marinella); and Richard R. Westerman (Alyssa); sister, Johanna Henretta; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Penelope Barker House of Edenton, NC.

Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is assisting the family with a private funeral service.
