Ida Mae Smith

Ida Mae Smith was born in Ridgeland, SC on September 3, 1939 to the late Lester Clint Daring and Jennie Woods Daring.  Ida and Coleman Simmie Smith, who predeceased Ida,  lived in Grays, SC,  where she raised her children, Michael Smith (Cathy) and Gerald Glenn Smith (Connie).

Ida was a wonderful mother who cared deeply for her children and grandchildren, Tiffany Parks (Alan), Megan Smith, Hillary Mixson (Nathan), Zachary Smith (Ellie) and great grandchildren, Amari Wiggins, Rhianah Wiggins, Michael Parks, Destiny Parks, and Wrenly Mae Mixson.

Additional family members surviving Ida are her brother, Lester Daring, sisters, Jeanette Twitty of Ridgeland and Mary Anne Bearss (Ralph) of Michigan and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie Daring, DC Daring, sisters, Edith Poston, Jean Tindal and Thelma Langdale.

We wish to give a special thank you to all of Ida’s caregivers, Cynthia Wilson, Rudy Ward, Terry Lynn Jarrell, Robin Mock, Jessica Lightsey and Heather Dupont, her sister, Jeanette Twitty and the staff from Friends of Caroline. Many were by her side when she passed peacefully at home on May 2, 2025.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Street, Ridgeland.  A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Sauls Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Grimes Cemetery, Grays, SC.
