Irene (Hawthorne) Alston

December 25, 1945 — September 19, 2024

Irene Alston, born Irene Hawthorne on December 25, 1945, to the late Ervin and Mattie Bell Hawthorne of Beach Island, South Carolina/Screven County/Augusta Georgia. She received her early education at Victory Christian School on Beach Island, SC and later moved to Detroit, Michigan, there she lived and continued working as a home health aide, in the late seventies she relocated back to South Carolina where she met and married Theodore Roosevelt Alston Jr. on February 23, 1979. Mrs. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Roosevelt Alston Jr. of 45 years and son, Theodore Alston III, also known as Turtle.

On September 19, 2024, Mrs. Irene as she was notably called, made her transition from the physical world to the spiritual realm peacefully at home with her son Anthony by her side. Mrs. Irene was a member of Chapel on the Hill Holiness Church.

Loving memories will always be in the hearts of her children, Joseph (Evonne) Alston of Wichita, Kansas, Anthony (Harashia) Alston of Ridgeland, South Carolina, Henry Alston of Ridgeland, Tonya Alston of Ridgeland, Gwendolyn Alston of Hardeeville, South Carolina, and Viola Alston of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Patricia Alston of Ridgeland, South Carolina, Albert Young of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Darnell Heyward of Ridgeland, South Carolina. Nephews Johnathan, James, and Steven (Ouantas) Kittles of Savannah, Georgia. Thirty grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Amethyst Irene Alston, and Tymir Lester. Sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Brother-in-law, Robert Lee Alston Sr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A special daughter Harashia Ramos, a special friend, George (Bobie) Singleton, both of Ridgeland, South Carolina. Like daughters Tonya and Mildred.
