Irene Hasay Kropiewnicki, known to many as “Baba,” passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family and strengthened by her faith in God. She celebrated her 94th birthday surrounded by family.
Born in Red Hill, Pennsylvania on April 1, 1932 to George Hasay and Mary Paciga; Irene married her beloved husband, John Kropiewnicki (Jagee), and together they built a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to their family. A devoted Catholic, she lived her life guided by prayer and her deep trust in the Lord. She found great comfort in her faith and in the sacraments, which remained an important part of her life.
Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to her family and took great joy in watching it grow across generations. She will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and the unwavering love she showed to those around her. Her home and heart were always open, and her family was truly her greatest blessing. She loved cooking and baking for family and looked forward to her daily conversations with her children.
She is survived by her children: Mary, Cathleen, John (Gloria), Paul (Helen), Joseph (Amanda); her grandchildren, Anne Jackson and Maxwell Kropiewnicki; MaeLynne, Jacob, and Lianne Connolly; Charles and Julia Kropiewnicki; Liam Kropiewnicki; Keira, Austin, and Sean Kropiewnicki; and her great-grandchildren, Connor and Charlotte Jackson; and her sister, Sophie Gabana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, John; her brothers, John, Andrew, and Joseph Hasay; and her sisters, Mary Hasay, Anna Crepack, and Helen Heller.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to support Type 1 diabetes research at Breakthrought1d.org.
Services will be held in Bluffton, South Carolina, on April 13, 2026 with a viewing at 9:30 AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. The burial service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mocanaqua, Pennsylvania at a later date.
We take comfort in knowing that Irene is now at peace in the presence of the Lord, reunited with her husband and those loved ones who have gone before her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
