Isabelle Gloria Morgan Schwarberg passed away peacefully on January 21, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born May 6, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio. She was one of two daughters born to loving parents Roy and Edyth Geary Morgan.
Isabelle graduated from Ohio State University in 1946. She was a member of the first graduating class of Dental Hygienists in the College of Dentistry from Ohio State University. Following graduation, she worked for Williams Shoe in Portsmouth, Ohio in a company- owned dental clinic for employees. She later moved to Cincinnati in 1949 where she met John (Jack) Haines Schwarberg. They were married in 1952 and later divorced. They had four children, John Peter Schwarberg, Jennie Scholl Martin, Susan Lynn Collins and Anne Morgan Tooley.
Isabelle, a descendent of a long line of forward thinkers, is predeceased by her parents Roy Morgan and Edyth Geary Morgan, sister Mary Ann Morgan and family friend Robert Johnson. She is survived by four children, John Peter Schwarberg, wife Jenny, (grandchild, Emily Apple) Jennie Scholl Martin, Susan Lynn Collins (grandchildren, Katie Nagy and Robert Collins), Anne Morgan Tooley and husband Charlie, (grandchildren, Maren Fjord and Lee Fjord) and (great- grandchildren, Henry and James Neumann) whom she loved and the many friends she enjoyed throughout her life & travels.
She worked for the Cincinnati Health Department as a Dental Hygienist at the Elm Street Clinic and then as a Health Educator after completing her Masters’ Degree in Health Education from the University of Cincinnati, graduating Cum Laude. She was proud of her life work at the Cincinnati Health Department particularly in the area of AIDS education. At the early onset of this epidemic Isabelle attended the first World AIDS Conference in Paris, which helped others in the tri-state area expand training on the epidemic. She was an avid proponent for Healthcare, AIDS Awareness, Reproductive Rights and education in general. An advocate, activist & leader ahead of her time in many ways. Isabelle helped many explore their life’s aspirations and achieve their life goals.
She was active on numerous local boards throughout the Cincinnati area, including the Dominican Nuns in Over- the- Rhine on York Street, and Community Chest, she also served in various board roles and the President of Columbia Towers Condo Association, where she resided. Isabelle enjoyed her time at the Hyde Park Senior Center, engaging her friends and playing long afternoons of bridge there. A lifelong learner, avid reader, educator and consummate world traveler. She loved the City of Cincinnati, the Arts and especially politics and her view of the Ohio River. During her extensive around the world travels she found a second home and family of friends in Nerac, France, while at 85 and still traveling on her own. She returned numerous times for extended stays to Nerac until her last trip at 94 and spent time embraced in her beautiful village and friends one more time. Isabelle was interested in people, their lives, their stories. She met and engaged people openly, cared deeply about others, their plight, was fun loving and was a very giving and generous soul. Of her life she said, “ I had a lot of fun and made many good friends”. Her favorite movie was “The Thomas Crown Affair” and especially Steve McQueen. She embraced the song, “What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life” as her personal favorite & theme song.
She passed away in the loving care of her daughter Anne and son- in- law Charlie, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with the support of dear friends and the care of hospice. She will be missed by those that loved her and many who’s lives she touched along the path of an interesting and fulfilling life, lived to the fullest.
Isabelle will be buried alongside her family at the Pataskala Cemetery, Pataskala, Ohio. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
