J. Dennis Montgomery

J. Dennis Montgomery, 79, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Coastal Carolina Center. He is survived by his loving wife Eileen, children; Deborah S. Maw (Chuck), Carol D. Van Gorp (Mike), David J. Montgomery (Lyn), Robert B. Montgomery (Amanda), grandchildren; Bradley P. Genser, Howard Genser, lll, Diane C. Montgomery, David J. Montgomery, Jr., Nicole M. Van Gorp, Andrew J. Montgomery. He fought hard to recover from his illness for the love of Eileen and his family. General Montgomery served in the U.S. Air Force with a career that spanned 34 years. Receiving numerous military honors, he also ranked as Major General (Retired-Iowa) in Iowa Air National Guard. Along with his dedicated military career, he had a long list of accomplishments and held several prominent positions; graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, President of the Iowa Savings and Loan League, President of Scandia Savings and Loan, President of the Iowa Credit Union League, President of Association Executives and Controllers Society, President of the Illinois League of Financial Institutions. After relocating to the Hilton Head area, Dennis and his wife Eileen became affiliated with Gateway Realty specializing in residential and commercial acquisitions and sales. They were soon to celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary. Dennis and Eileen were blessed to have a strong and loving marriage. Both were fortunate to be partners in life and business, working together as a successful real estate team at Gateway Realty. Colleagues, clients and friends held Dennis in high regard and respect for he was a man of integrity, honesty and trust. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum, 7105 NW 70th Ave, Johnston, Iowa 50131. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
