Jack Allan Bennett

August 15, 1932 — May 21, 2015

Jack Allan Bennett, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Bluffton, SC on Thursday, May 21, 2015. Jack served his country proudly as a Marine in the Korean War. He continued to serve in his community(s) as a 37 year veteran of the fire department. 31 of those years with the LAFD where he was promoted through the ranks to the Asst. Chief. After his retirement from the LAFD he served as the Fire Chief for the Menlo Park Fire Dept. from 1986-1992. Most recently he served as Commissioner for the Bluffton, SC Township Fire District. In 1963 Jack married the love of his life Joan, and they remained happily married for 53 years. Jack was a great piano player and the published author of the book "Fireman Games". He would attend Marine Corps graduations at Parris Island at times, not even knowing a graduate. SEMPER FI! Jack is survived by his loving wife Joan, his two sons, Mark Bennett of Dana Point, CA and Brian Bennett of Mission Viejo, CA, his daughters, Carla Hudgins of Matthews, NC and Robyn Valdez of Canyon Lake, CA. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Deanne and we are comforted at the thought of them being reunited in Christ. Jack would want to acknowledge he was first and foremost a lover of Jesus Christ. Since Jack was such a prankster we are sure that some of you have funny stories where he made you laugh. Please feel free to share those times with us. Jack's services will be held at Red Dam Baptist Church in Hardeeville, SC on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. and burial will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, www.parkinson.org.
