Jack O. Eckner, 83 of Hilton Head Island passed away suddenly on October 20th.
Mr. Eckner was predeceased in death by his beloved wife Arleen and is survived by his son Jim and daughter in law Debbie as well as the many dear friends he made during his remarkable life. Jack was a native of Chicago where he was a Chicago Police officer and educator before becoming a U.S. Treasury Agent and moved to the Washington DC area. During the course of his career he received many awards and commendations for outstanding service. Mr. Eckner was also an accomplished artist, avid reader, scholar with a profound knowledge of many subjects, golfer and a great story and joke teller. Jack and Arleen came to the Island following his retirement 20 years ago and cherished their time spent here. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC. Donations can be made in Jack's honor to the American Cancer Society.
