Jack Wayne Howard

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Jack Howard Sr, our beloved husband, father, Papa and G-Pa went to be with the Lord.  He was eighty-two years old.  Born to John Edward and Francis Dean Butler on August 6, 1940 in Livermore, KY.  Jack worked at Colonial Baking Company for thirty-seven and a half years working his way up from route salesman to the President of the bakery.

Jack was married to the love of his life, Phyllis Sue English for 62 years.  In addition to his wife, survivors include his three sons, Jack Howard Jr. (Katherine) of Oklahoma, Jeffrey Howard (Lori) of Ohio, Johnathan Howard (Jennifer) of Tennessee; nine grandchildren Nina (Andy) Sexton, Jack Howard III (Christian), Ruston Howard, Parker Howard, Zackrey Howard, Greyson Howard, Presley Howard, Nick Walley, Caleb Walley; five great grandchildren, Paisley, Kanon and Kade Sexton, Palmer and Kennedy Howard.

Jack (Papa) enjoyed playing golf, fishing and bird hunting.  Above all, Jack loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids sitting in his lap, treating them to popcorn and apples.  Papa loved taking the kids for rides in his John Deere tractor and making Burgoo with the family.  Jack was a true Kentuckian representing and cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Jack’s love for playing music started early in life; he played trumpet in his high school band before advancing to the dance band, Tradewinds, where he played for over thirty years and added the piano keys to his repertoire.  Jack was a natural musician, playing any instrument he picked up.  Later in life he learned to play the dulcimer. Jack enjoyed combining his passion for music with the love of his church and played trumpet for the church congregation for over ten years.  He achieved the distinction of an ordained Deacon in 2004 at Zion Baptist Church in Zion, KY. He continued to serve as Chairman of the Deacons at Zion Baptist Church in KY and Okatee Baptist Church in Ridgeland, SC for ten years.  He loved the Lord and his church.

The world is a quieter place since he's gone, but we can imagine the sounds of music that are new to Heaven.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 12-12:45 pm with services at 1:00 pm at Okatee Baptist Church, 5467 Okatie Highway, Ridgeland, SC  29936.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Okatee Baptist Church, 5467 North Okatie Highway, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
