Jackson Andrew "Andy" Stephens

Jackson Andrew “Andy” Stephens, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina, on October 18, 2026.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 16, 1945, Andy was the son of the late George Roscoe Stephens and Mary Dell (Redwine) Stephens. After high school, he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a humble, kind man whose quiet presence, loyalty, and willingness to help made a lasting difference to the people he loved.

Andy spent the majority of his career at First Financial Management Corporation in Atlanta. He spent his final ten working years at Apple—the happiest years of his career—where his lifelong enthusiasm for computers and technology found a fitting home.

In retirement, Andy moved to the Lowcountry, where he gave generously of his time, serving his community at The Haven and on the Board of Directors for Friends of Hunting Island. Hunting Island was one of his favorite places, bringing together so much of what he loved: the beach, birds, photography, and the beauty of the Lowcountry and her people.

Above all, Andy loved his family and friends. He also loved dogs, trains, his Auburn Tigers, and a good dad joke. A man of few words, he always had just the right ones for a punchline. Often happiest with a camera in hand, he found joy in watching birds, exploring the coast, and capturing moments others might pass by.

Andy is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Betsy Johnson Stephens; daughters Tanya Bancroft of Comer, Georgia, and Lara Bancroft of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Jenna Skye Reese and grandsons Tristen Lane Reese and Justin Corey (Lytton) Reese; sisters Sally (Emil) Sutton and Bonnie (Gary) Wolf; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Andy will be remembered for his sweetness, understated humor, and the steady care he showed those around him. His legacy lives on in the people he helped, the photographs he leaves behind, and the countless ordinary moments he made brighter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Andy Stephens Memorial Fund at Hunting Island, honoring his love for a place that brought him so much joy.
