James Wylie Alford

October 29, 1925 — March 22, 2015

James Wylie Alford, 89 of Bluffton, SC passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home. He was born and raised on a dairy farm in New Castle, PA. to the late Floyd and Laura Patton Alford. He graduated from Shenango High School in 1944. He worked at the Laurel School District as a custodian and bus driver in New Castle, PA. He worked for the National Cash Register Company in Youngstown, OH and for Anderson Tours in Greenville, PA. He was an Elder in the Westminister United Presbyterian Church in New Castle, PA for 60 years. He was a member of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church helping his wife who served as pastor in six churches throughout the State. He is survived by his wife, Rev. Judith Martin Alford of Bluffton, SC; his daughter, Cheryl Alford Ohl of Titusville, PA; stepsons, Peter Martin Mathieu of New Castle, PA and Ross (Jen) Mathieu of Fairbanks, AK; his sister, Edna Jean Alford Meade of Peoria, AZ, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Arlene Conway Alford and two sisters, Mary Ruth Alford Shaddock and Elizabeth Ann Alford Hackett. A memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date.
