James (Jim) Louis Allen, LTC US Army (Retired), 84, of Bennettsville, SC, passed away on October 12th of natural causes.
The funeral service will be held on October 31st at 12 PM at Saint Denis Catholic Church in Bennettsville, SC. Father David Michael of Saint Denis will say the mass. Father Richard Jackson (Retired) to attend. There will be no visitation. Private interment will follow the funeral at Beaufort National Cemetery on November 2nd. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton SC.
Jim was born on December 19th, 1930. He graduated from Clio High School and went on to receive a BS Degree in Agronomy from Clemson University in 1952.
Jim was married to Alice Joan Collison on February 11th 1956; they were married 59 years.
Jim served as an Infantry officer in the US Army for 27 years. He earned a Combat Infantry Badge for service in the Vietnam War, and received the Bronze Star and two Legion of Merit awards, among many other awards and decorations.
He returned home to Marlboro County in 1979 and operated a peach farm for six years with his brother Edwin, and then for nine years was the Marlboro County Veterans Affairs Officer. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Jim was also actively involved in Knights of Columbus Catholic Charities and St. Denis Catholic Church. .He was an avid Clemson Tiger's fan.
Jim is survived by his spouse Alice, his sister Laura, his children Jim, Chris, John, Greg, Mary, and Laura, and grandchildren Jason, Nicholas, Genevieve, Keenan, Jacob, Chris, Brooke, Reagan, Ryan, Madigan, Mackenzie,, and twins Chloe, and Sophia.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Walter E. Allen and Elizabeth Parker Allen, his brothers Walter, Edwin, Harris, and sisters Elizabeth, Vera, and Margaret, and his beloved daughter Joan.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation. The family of James Louis Allen wishes to thank our friends in Marlboro County.
