James Richard Crews Sr., age 72 of Estill, SC and former Mayor of Scotia passed away on January 30, 2016 at the Hampton Hospital, Varnville, SC. James was born in Hampton, SC on January 25, 1944 to the late Joseph Crews and Eulla Nix Crews. James was a heavy equipment operator for Cullum Lumber Company of Allendale, SC; served as Mayor of Scotia, SC for 20 years; member of West End Baptist Church of Hampton, SC; loved farming and anything outdoors including deer hunting and fishing. James is survived by his wife, Nancy Tuten Crews of Estill, SC; one son, James R. ‘Ricky’ Crews Jr. (Holly) of Gable, SC; one brother, Charlie I. Crews (Martha) of Estill, SC; one sister, Gloria Rivers (widow of the late Eugene Rivers) of Estill, SC and one sister in law, Harriett T. Crews (widow of William R. Crews) of Estill, SC; grandchildren, Kayla Ayer, Justin Sauls, Megan Sauls and Jordan Crews and two great grandchildren, Trenton Sauls and Trey Ayer. James was predeceased by his daughter, Tammy C. Boyles in addition to his one brother. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the West End Baptist Church, Hampton, SC with burial to follow in Stafford Baptist Church Cemetery, Furman, SC.
