James John Cuny

James J Cuny, 96, born in Chicago to the late Albert and the late Barbara (nee Felten). He was the youngest of seven, the last surviving of Albert, Jerome (Germaine), George, Geraldine, Imelda (Jesse) and Eugene. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Beloved husband for 55 years (1953–2008) to the late Kathleen (nee Healy) from Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Loving father of Carol (Fred) Birch and Marie (Jim) Furrh. Grandfather to seven, Chris (Aja), Erin, Dan, Kerry, Alex, Lauren (Craig), Ryan and great-grandfather to two, James and Ellie.

Jim was born and raised in Chicago, but Jim and Kathy made the courageous move to “the land beyond O’Hare” in 1969, moving the family to a new house in Schaumburg. When he retired from the O’Hare Post Office, after 40+ years of work, he and Kathy moved to Carpentersville. He moved after Kathleen’s death in 2008 to Wheaton to be closer to family. Through the 1990’s and 2000’s, Jim and Kathy spent many winters in Florida. In 2022, he made a huge leap of faith at the age of 93 to move south with Marie and Jim to Bluffton, SC to enjoy warmer weather. He lived there until he died, surrounded by family, on 12/27/23. His last days were filled with fun stories, laughter and lots of love.

Interment will be private at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery in Palatine, Illinois in 2024.
