James “Jim” Raymond Fleisher, 79, of Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina, formerly of Perry County, PA, died from heart failure at Hilton Head Hospital on October 14th with his beloved wife by his side. Born on January 14, 1947 in Harrisburg, PA, Jim was the son of Harold E. and Helen (Morrow) Fleisher.
Jim was a man who always had a smile on his face and a quick wit that could make just about anyone laugh. He had a way of making people feel welcome and was someone others simply enjoyed being around. Affectionately known as the “baby whisperer” and the “dog whisperer,” Jim had a special touch with little ones and four-legged friends alike. His warm personality, sense of humor, and easygoing nature made him unforgettable to those who knew him.
Jim loved watching all sports, but he especially loved the Atlanta Braves and North Carolina Tarheels College Basketball. He was also an avid golfer, Jim enjoyed spending time on the golf course with friends, sharing good conversation and a beer or two after a round.
Jim was a 1964 graduate of Green Park Union HS before serving in the Army Reserves from 1966-1971. Jim spent most of his career in the transportation industry, driving truck for various companies before retiring in 2005 from Manley Regan Chemical/Univar USA in Middletown, PA, where he built lasting connections throughout his professional life.
Jim is survived by his wife of 28 years, Charlotte Tankersley Fleisher; his loving daughter, Gillian Hench, and her husband, Ray, of Newville, PA; and his grandson, Alex James Hayden, of Wilmington, NC. He is further survived by his brothers, Gary W. Fleisher and his wife, Carol, of Carlisle, PA, and John K. Fleisher and his wife, Susan, of Shermans Dale, PA. He leaves behind his cherished nephew, Thomas Fleisher, and his wife, April, of Chalfont, PA. He is also survived by his bonus daughter, Amy Meyer, and her husband, Casey, and his bonus son, Greg Rittenberry, in addition to his bonus grandchildren, Alyssa and Owen Meyer, all of Kentucky. He will be dearly missed by his extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on November 14, 2026 at New Hope United Church of Christ, 108 S. Carlisle St. Landisburg, PA 17040. Family and Friends may visit from 12-1pm and the Memorial Service with Pastor John Melhorn officiating will be at 1pm. A luncheon will follow afterward.
