James Michael Hubbard, Sr (Mike), 73, of Hardeeville, SC (formerly of Vance, SC) peacefully passed away December 8, 2024 while enjoying time at his home away from home, Key Largo, FL.
Mike was born October 16, 1951, in Bennettsville, SC to Earl and Annie Laurie Hubbard. He attended the University of South Carolina. He served in the National Guard. He and Carolyn had fond memories of the opening days at The Quarterdeck Restaurant in Sea Pines and the early days of the Heritage Golf Tournament. He spent most of his life working in the “chicken business,” starting as a manager at the KFC in Hardeeville, SC, and ending with his own franchise with his beloved wife and son.
Mike was an awesome son, husband, father, brother, and friend. In his younger days, Mike enjoyed racing stock cars and was track champion at several tracks in the southeast. He loved to travel with his best friend and wife, Carolyn, and family and friends. They especially enjoyed cruising, the Daytona NASCAR Races, and the Florida Keys. Mike, Carolyn, and Michael fished across the southeast on the SKA and FLW Kingfish Tournament Trails for many years. In their travels, they made life-long friends from all over.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his father Earl Hubbard, son Michael Hubbard (Jennifer), granddaughters Jamie and Rebecca, sisters Nancy Butler (Roy) and Dora Meador (Billy), brothers Richard and Billy (Lisa), nephews Jonathan and Collin Hubbard, niece Jessie Hubbard, and great-nephews Christian and Madison.
He is predeceased by the love of his life of 53 years Carolyn, his mother Annie Laurie, his sister-in-law Betsy, and nephew Ricky.
A graveside burial will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 20, 2024, at Red Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sgt. Jasper Park immediately following the graveside service.
