James Boswell Inniss (94) passed away on April 20, 2017. He was the second son of Vernon Boswell and Amy Inniss and was preceded in death by a brother Leonard Boswell Inniss of La Mesa, CA. Jim was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, British West Indies on January 3, 1923. In 1945, at the age of 22, he immigrated to the United States and since then, he has made his home here. In 1959, he acquired US citizenship which he cherished his entire life. He was a graduate from Wayne State University with a BA in teaching. He also received a Masters with a major in counseling from the University of California, Fullerton. Until his retirement, he served as elementary and junior high counselor at Upper Dauphin Area School District and the Lebanon School District in Lebanon, PA. He loved teaching and Spanish and continued helping students until his passing. A lover of words, he spent much of his time as a freelance writer. He served the Harrisburg Patriot News as a correspondent and was published in various other outlets including his professional field. A high mark in his duties as correspondent was his attendance at a Richard Nixon new conference in the White House during the Watergate Hearings. He wrote three unpublished works: We Needed Each Other, an Autobiography: Peeling the Onion and a novel The Search. Latterly, Jim spent 12 years as a volunteer interpreter at Volunteers in Medicine, Hilton Head Island, SC. He spent many hours in his garden in Okatie Farms and enjoyed playing with the Sun City Strummers. In December 1962, Jim was married to Marjorie Ann Mertz of Stoneboro, PA who passed away in 1988. He is survived by two children, Deborah Ann Inniss of Bluffton, SC and David Boswell Inniss of Columbia, TN, a daughter-in-law Monica Ramirez Inniss and 3 grandchildren, Parker Marie, Addison Boswell and Brayden Boswell. On June 8, 2002, James and Joanne Fulcher Davidson of Waynesboro, GA were married at Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC and were active members. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Cross, Calhoun Street on May 4th at 3pm. A time of fellowship will follow the service. In lieu for flowers, donations may be made to Volunteers in Medicine, Hilton Head or Church of the Cross.
