James Joel O'Quinn, 81, died Monday, July 14, 2014 at his home in Ridgeland, SC.
He was born on July 13, 1933 in Ridgeland, SC to the late James David "JD" O'Quinn and Catherine Padgett O'Quinn.
He was employed by the South Carolina Department of Education where he trained and certified school bus drivers for Jasper, Beaufort, Colleton, Charleston, Berkley and Dorchester counties; member, Coosawhatchie Baptist Church; graduate of Clemson University where he played Baseball; member, Clemson letterman's club, all ACC Catcher in 1954; member, Ridgeland Masonic Lodge and he was a member of the SC National Guard for 19 years.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Williams O'Quinn of Ridgeland, SC; sons, James Joel O'Quinn, Jr. (Stephanie); Gerald David O'Quinn (Christi); Wilbur C. O'Quinn and John Levine, all of Ridgeland, SC; daughter, Tselane O. Smith (Wayne) of Ehrhardt, SC; brothers, Samuel R. O'Quinn (Rosemary) of Ridgeland, SC; mother in law, Nada Williams of Coosawhatchie, SC; grandchildren, Jaime O. Fitch (Dustin); Ashley O. Mock (Garrett), Allison B. O'Quinn, Hunter J Bennett O'Quinn, Cliffton James O'Quinn, Hannah C. O'Quinn, Tristan O'Swartz, Colby Smith; great grandchildren, Christian Tyler Fitch and Caiden Jaxon Fitch.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Coosawhatchie Baptist Church with burial to follow in O'Quinn family cemetery on DeLoss Point Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the hour of service at the church.
