James Joseph Mahoney Jr.

James Joseph Mahoney Jr. He was born in Middleboro, Mass on June 21, 1928 to Flo and James J Mahoney. He graduated from Middleboro High School in June 1946. He joined the US Navy and was discharged in April 1948. He won a WW2 victory medal. Because so many men were getting out of the service the colleges quickly filled up so he went to an Assc. College in Plattsburg N.J. for 2 years, and then to MIT and graduated as a Civil Engineer. He also went to Emerson College night school theater in Boston, Mass. As a talented actor he was in plays in, Boston, New York City, Peoria Illinois, and Saudi Arabia and won several theater awards. He loved the theater, world traveling and golf. He traveled around the world a couple of times and especially loved Ireland where his ancestors were from and a safari in Africa was his most favorite because he loved animals but also the country side was so beautiful. He had friends all over the world and enjoyed each and every one. After returning to the states many friends would come from Europe as well as from different states came to visit us. People just loved to be in his company. Jim & Nita were married for 59 years, they had 4 children, Matt, Susie, Cathy & Jimmy III ; 10 grandchildren, James IV, Charles, Elizabeth, Melissa, Dylan, Samantha, Joey, Corey, Laura and Courtney. And 3 great grandchildren. Jim loved his church and was happy to be a part of the adoration group on Sunday's. He was truly a wonderful man. He will be missed. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC 29909. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island, SC. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Community Thrift, raising funds for Hospice Care of the Low Country, 3-A Matthews Court, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. (843)689-5455.
