James Josef Rheinberger, 86, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the Fraser Health Center, Hilton Head Island, SC.He was born in Duluth, MN on May 5, 1923. He was the son of the late Vincent Paul and Cora Davis Rheinberger.He was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge; the 82nd Airborne Association and the local chapter VFW VanDervoort and Veterans Army Airborne. He was a past member of the Point Judith Country Club of Rhode Island. He was a member of the Callawassie Country Club. He had worked for Aetna Casualty and Surety for 37 years as an insurance underwriter. He was an avid stamp collector since age 11. He loved traveling, skiing and mountain climbing.. He was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. He received his masters from Harvard and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University College/Sorbonne in Paris. He was a Catholic.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Rheinberger of Okatie, SC; two sons, Richard (Patricia) Rheinberger of Narragansett, RI and James (Margaret) Rheinberger Jr. of Rehoboth, MA and two grandchildren, Erin (Thomas) Ribeiro of Newport, RI and Brenna Rheinberger of So. Kingstown, RI.The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC at 12:30 pm.The family requests memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 AC Skinner Pkwy, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256.Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, SC is assisting the family with their arrangements.
