James Preston Shoffner

Mr. James Preston Shoffner, Jim, passed away peacefully on November 29 at his home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Jim was born on June 30,1932 to Huda and George Shoffner in Shelbyville, Tenn. He attended The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he was a three sport varsity athlete in football, soccer, and tennis. After graduating in 1950, he attended Cornell University and majored in Electrical Engineering at Cornell, Jim was inducted into The Sphinx Head Senior Honor Society and was a varsity lettermen in two sports, soccer and tennis. He was captain of the soccer team and earned All-Ivy League honors. In 1955, Jim started his career with The DuPont Company in Orange, Texas where he met and married his beloved wife of 52 years, Janis Keith. Upon leaving the DuPont company in 1966, he started his own company, Flurodynamics, specializing in Teflon based products for industrial applications. Jim successfully sold the company to New York based Caborundum.Jim was an avid pilot and enjoyed all things outdoors with his family. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan Shoffner and four grown children, Jay Shoffner, John Shoffner, Jan Shoffner Johnston and Jill Shoffner Egan: nine grandchildren, Hill, Ben and Jan Jan Johnston, Ryan and Hayden Shoffner, and John, Jake, Jackson and Joe Egan. He is also survived by his sister Mary Mina Morgan and his brother George Shoffner.A graveside service is scheduled for 2 pm on Wednesday, December 7 at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island. A reception will be held after the service at the home of the Shoffners.The family requests memorial gifts be made in memory of Jim Shoffner to the First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island 100 South Forest Beach Drive Hilton Head Island, SC. 29928
