James Obert Wogsland

June 15, 1956 — December 16, 2021

James O. Wogsland died of prostate cancer in his home on December 16, 2021 with his loving wife of 43 years, Sally Marshall Wogsland, at his side.   James (Jim) was known throughout his life for his quiet, loving, caring and kind manner, his perseverance and business savvy.  Jim was born to Neal and Mary Dell Wogsland in 1956 in Bel Air, Maryland and grew up in a loving Christian family, with his sisters, Dell and Nancy.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree at Western Maryland College in 1978 (now McDaniel College) and marrying his college sweetheart, Sally, he went on to earn an MBA at Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland, while working in insurance claims. During the next years Jim and Sally raised three children, Bradley, Patrick and Jaime.  Jim enjoyed contributing time to his church, playing softball, golf, coaching his sons’ baseball team and attending his children’s many activities including plays, football games and choral concerts. Meanwhile, Jim earned many awards and commendations at American International Group and became Chief Operating Officer in 2009.

Instead of retiring, Jim and Sally moved to Hilton Head Island, SC and opened a franchise, ComForCare Home Care.  This had always been a dream of Jim’s, to work alongside his wife in a business venture.  For 9 years, as they developed and grew ComForCare, he met and mentored fellow business people at BNI (Business Networking International), and he solicited volunteers and donors for The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, helping raise over $500,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association Charity during his tenure.  Throughout his life, Jim worked tirelessly, always giving, mentoring and caring about others.  He truly loved bringing people together to help one another.

Jim is preceded in death by his father Neal Carlyle Wogsland.  He is survived by his wife, Sally Marshall Wogsland; his mother, Mary Dell Wogsland; two sisters and their spouses; Dell Marie Elias and husband, Robert Elias; Nancy Carol Wogsland Nicholas and husband, Ken Nicholas; and his three children and their families; Bradley James Wogsland and his children, August, Brittan, Maxwell, Zara; Patrick Andrew Wogsland and wife, Ansley Wood Wogsland, and children, Eleanor, Marshall; Jaime Beth Wogsland Lesh and husband, Craig Lesh, Jaime’s daughter Alexandra, Craig’s daughters, Rachel and Shelby.
