Janet Cecelia Lane, 79, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on June 18, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Janet was born on October 25, 1944 in Spring Creek, Texas to the late Leo P. and Louise C. (March) Maloney. After playing sports and graduating from Borger High School (Borger, TX) she went to University of Texas (Austin, TX) “go Longhorns!“ and became a teacher. Janet enjoyed watching sports, Texas Longhorns and St. Louis Cardinals were always top of her list.
Janet married George A. Lane, Jr. on June 3, 1969. They were married for 55 years. After many moves they settled in Waynesville, Missouri in 1980. She taught school in the local area until retirement. While teaching in Missouri, she added the Alaskan Iditarod into her curriculum. Not only did she teach about it, she went to Alaska to experience it!
In 2004, Janet & George retired to the low country. They wanted to be closer to their daughter Erin, and grandchildren. She joined Saint Gregory The Great Catholic Church and sang in the choir. Janet loved teaching and sports, so she became a substitute teacher and volleyball coach at JP2 (Catholic school).
Janet enjoyed long walks with her husband and was an avid cyclist. She cycled from Bluffton, South Carolina to Key West, Florida.
Most of all she got joy from spending time with her husband, daughter and grandchildren going on many vacations and cheering at sporting events. Janet attended each and every sporting event her grandchildren had, no matter near or far.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by: two sisters Nadine Hadley and Patti Ann Knap; brothers-in-law Tom Bush and Kenneth Knapp; great-grandson Josiah Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are husband George A. Lane, Jr.; daughter Erin Boyles, her grandchildren Hope Hadley, Trey Boyles, Eric Boyles, Michael Boyles, Jr., and Xavier Boyles; brother Leo “Buster” Maloney, sister-in-law Cindy Maloney; two sisters Elaine Bush and Jacque Wakefield; brothers-in-law John “Red” Hadley, Robert “Bob” Wakefield; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Janet was a strong fighter. She is now sailing on a journey to shores that we cannot see. We know that she is free from pain and is floating peacefully. Keep swimming…….
