Jay A. Hodges, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Bluffton, SC, on April 27th. While he spent his later years enjoying the warmth of Sun City, Jay’s story began in Haverhill, MA, where he grew up in a bustling home with his three brothers and three sisters.
Jay was a man who truly mastered his craft. After graduating from Whittier Tech in 1977, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear welder. That same grit and precision defined his 25-year career at Eastman Kodak in Rochester and his later success running his own business, “Just Pipes.” He was the definition of a hardworking man—resolute, reliable, and always the first to offer his professional expertise or a helping hand to a neighbor in need.
But Jay knew how to appreciate the quiet moments, too. He was a lifelong learner who loved diving into history books and could often be found cruising the neighborhood on his electric bike. He had a great appreciation for good food and a quick wit, never missing a chance to catch a comedy show or settle in for a competitive game of dominoes.
Above all, Jay was a man of deep devotion. When his father passed away, Jay stepped in to care for his mother with a tenderness that defined his character. He filled her years with laughter and companionship, ensuring they spent plenty of time over dominoes and shared jokes.
Jay’s generous spirit and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a life well-lived.
