Jean Armstrong Smith passed away April 29, 2016 surrounded by family on Hilton Head Island, SC. Jean was born September 14, 1930 in Atlanta to Donald H Armstrong, Sr. and Aldora Anderson Armstrong. She graduated high school from NAPS (North Atlanta Presbyterian School) in Atlanta and earned a journalism degree from Wesleyan College in Macon. She married her beloved Bobby in 1952 and remained happily married in Atlanta for 61 years until Bobby’s death in 2013. She worked in the journalism field until she joined the TourGals (Atlanta Arrangements) Company in 1968 where she remained until she retired as CEO/President. She was an avid volunteer and served on the boards of several local charities. She loved to travel, play tennis and spend time with family and friends. She was a loving and involved parent and grandparent. Jean adored her grandchildren. She and Bobby spent much of their retired life attending their many athletic and social events. She was devoted to her family and hosted many family gatherings. Jean was predeceased by her husband Robert H Smith and her brother Donald H Armstrong Jr. She is survived by her daughters Lindy Carter (Tim) Hilton Head, SC, and Leslie Young (Terry) Kirkland, Il; her grandchildren Dylan Carter (Samantha), Rob Young ,Rebecca Young, Joy King (Joe), Beth Wilbanks and Robin Young; sisters-in-law Maxine Armstrong, Atlanta and Barbara S Davis (Purnell), Warrenton, Ga.; nephews Donald (Drue) A Armstrong (Leigh), Judah Drue Armstrong, Eph Davis, Jim Davis and niece Susannah Davis. The family will be forever grateful to Brookdale at Palm Court and Tidewater Hospice on Hilton Head Island for their compassionate care for the past three years. Arrangements made by Saul’s Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. There will be a graveside service at Arlington Memorial Park at 11:00 AM on June 18, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
