Jennifer Lynn Gibson, formerly of Forest Park IL, lost her brave battle with metastatic breast cancer on August 12, 2024. The only child of Frank & Patricia Gibson she graduated from Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism with a degree in communications.
Working on the college radio station she developed a keen interest in news reporting and began her career at various radio stations in Ohio and Wisconsin. Seeking opportunities to expand her reporting and writing skills she moved into the public sector as a spokesperson for the mayor of Ft Wayne IN.
Her 10 yr plan to relocate to California took a detour to Chicago where she spent twenty years as the public relations manager for professional and medical associations. This transition from broadcast journalism to public outreach honed her skills in print and digital media. An active member of the Chicago Society of Association Executives, she was a Certified Association Executive.
Jennifer loved sharing Chicago’s museums, architecture, restaurants and ethnic neighborhoods with visitors and friends. Joining like-minded young professional women in a “Ladies Adventure Club” she challenged her physical skills, discovering the joys of kayaking and golfing. Among her favorite PGA events was attending the RBC Heritage Tournament with her beloved father. Countless hours were spent with her mother preparing gourmet meals and dining in outstanding restaurants around the country.
As she awaited confirmation of her diagnosis, Jennifer wrote of her desire to sell her condo, move to her parents home in South Carolina and complete her ‘bucket list.” Trips to Napa Valley, Las Vegas , Vancouver, Alaska, Turkey, Greece, and the Galapagos were interspersed with treatments at MUSC. In March 2024 she celebrated life with her favorite family tradition— a pig roast. Family and friends gathered in Florida to celebrate her warrior spirit.
In May she journeyed “home” to Chicago reuniting with her dearest friends and showing the city to her “Colorado cuz”. A scheduled return for her birthday was not to be as she entered hospice on August 1.
In addition to her parents Jennifer is survived by her uncle and aunts: Joe & Marybeth Krovisky, Felicia Gibson and Nancy de Graff, along with numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Frances Krovisky and uncle Frank Krovisky.
Per Jennifer’s wishes she was cremated. Called from her earthly home too soon, she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.
