Jimmie E. Nunnery, 77 of Hilton Head Island, SC passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008 in the Hilton Head Medical Center, Hilton Head Island, SC.He was born in Fort Lawn, SC on October 21, 1930. He was adopted from the Connie Maxwell Orphanage in Greenwood, SC by Iva Jordan and Melvin Amos Nunnery.He received his B.S. degree from Lander College, Greenwood, SC and his M.A. from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC.He served on the County Board of Directors and as a Magistrate Court Judge of Chester County. He also served as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1963-68. He retired as a Major from the SC Army National Guard and as Distinguished Professor Emeritus from the University of South Carolina. While at USC, he twice served as chair of the University System Faculty Senate and as advisor to the Board of Trustees. He was also honored with several distinguished teaching awards at the university while teaching psychology, business and general studies at USC Lancaster. He was a member and Past Master of the Richburg Masonic Lodge 89 A.F.M., Richburg, SC; Knight Templar of the Grand Commandry of North America and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple, Greenville, SC.He retired to Hilton Head Island in 1989 where he enjoyed golf and aerobic walking on the beach.He is survived by his wife, Rose Kearney Nunnery of Hilton Head Island, SC, his sister in law, Nada Lawrimore of Wilkesboro, NC and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sons, William Stanley and Melvin Ernest
