Joan Silverberg Anthony passed away peacefully at Bay View Manor in Beaufort, SC on Friday the fourth of July.
Mrs. Anthony was born November 19, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY to the late William and Rose Silverberg. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Anthony, sister, Ruth Laura Silverberg and brother, Sydney Silverberg.
Joan met George in 1945 in Paris, France during World War II, where she was serving her country in the American Red Cross. They were married in Paris in 1946. Joan retired as an executive secretary from M. Lowenstein and spent many years volunteering with the Red Cross and the Museum of York County. Joan was a founding member of the Rock Hill Variety Club. She was the oldest member of Hilton Head Presbyterian Church where she was baptized at age 90 with her great granddaughter, Patterson.
Mrs. Anthony was recently recognized by the American Red Cross and presented a life time service award given to only 300 volunteers in the history of the Red Cross.
Mrs. Anthony is survived by her son, Steve G. Anthony Sr. (Ann) of Bluffton, SC; her daughter, Donna Anthony Givens (Tom) of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Steve G. Anthony Jr.(Margaret), Lori Anthony Guscio (Jamie), Mary Katherine Givens, Alex Givens and five great granddaughters, Meg Anthony, Lauren Anthony, Carly Anthony, Patterson Guscio and Lily Guscio.
