Joan Jeremiah Reusswig, 85, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Glastonbury, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 9, 2021, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born February 22, 1936 in Mineola, NY to the late John Jeremiah and Elsie (Price) Jeremiah, Joan graduated from Cornell University in 1957. She and her late husband, Theodore “Ted” Reusswig, Jr. raised their daughters in Glastonbury, CT where they lived for 30 years. Joan taught elementary school in Norfolk, VA while Ted served in the U.S. Navy. Years later she proudly served as the Clergy Deployment Officer for the Episcopal Diocese of CT for 15 years. Following Ted’s death Joan relocated to Sun City where she was an active volunteer in the Bluffton, SC community and at All Saints Episcopal Church on Hilton Head.
She leaves behind daughters Karen Stevenson of Charleston, SC, Susan Neenan (Garth) of Milton, GA, and Kristin Yost (Robert) of Herndon, VA. She is survived by her seven grandchildren Courtney and Abby Stevenson, Luke, Evan and Anne Neenan, and Drew and Jason Yost; one sister Dorothy Jackson (R. Peter) of Boulder, CO; sister-in-law Judith Reusswig of Bluffton, SC; brother-in-law Ed Bollenbacher of Baldwinsville, NY; and five nieces and nephews.
A family memorial service will be held in Glastonbury, CT at the Memorial Garden of St. James Episcopal Church at a future date. Joan was a grateful recipient of the services of Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to them or a charity of your choice. Sauls Funeral Home has care of her arrangements.
