Joan Burtis Meany, age 82, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 after a brief illness. Joan's parents Edwin and Agnes Schuettinger Burtis predeceased her as did her husband Christopher Meany in 2009, her loving brother Edwin Burtis and her precious little dog, Isabelle. Joan grew up in Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY and went to Scudder Jr. College in New York City. She worked as a secretary for Fuller, Smith & Ross Advertising Agency in New York City. She then married Chris and started a family. Joan was an accomplished sewer and once her four children were in school she gave sewing lessons and worked as a sales person and went on buying trips to New York with the owner of the Sewing Basket in Chappaqua, NY. Joan loved playing tennis until an ankle injury took her off the courts for good. She did Water Aerobics and Tai Chi at the Fitness Center in Sun City and played Bridge, Canasta and Dominoes. She loved everyone and her bright smile and big hug when she saw you will be missed by all. She is survived by her dearly beloved four children: Linda Cloutier (Bruce), Ocala, FL, Kevin (Shari), Hilton Head, SC, Brian (Sue), Naples, FL, Joanne (Doug), Minneapolis, MN. Also 10 Grandchildren, Doug Cloutier (Kathy), Maynard, MA, Darren Cloutier (Michelle), Keene, NH, Ryan Meany (Alli), Atlanta GA, Alexa Meany, Charleston, SC, Jessica Meany, Brooklyn, NY, Kyle Meany, Brooklyn, NY, Scott Kerrigan, Buffalo, NY, Laura Kerrigan, Ithaca, NY, Samantha Nelson, Minneapolis, MN and Danielle Nelson, Los Angeles, CA as well as four Great Grandchildren: Matthew and Andrew Cloutier, Maynard, MA, Brendan and Emma Cloutier, Keene NH.
A memorial mass will be held at Saint Gregory The Great Catholic Church at 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Interment will be in the Resurrection Garden of St. Gregory The Great at a later date.
