Joan Snider Papst of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on February 20, 2016 at the age of 84.
Joan, the daughter of the late Ralph Eugene Snider and Martha Appel Snider, was born on October 3, 1931 in Washington, Pennsylvania. Joan’s passion was travel and after marrying the love of her life, Tom Papst in 1952, Tom’s career with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service gave them the opportunity to tour the world. Joan and Tom lived in Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Germany and South Korea. Joan not only fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling the world but also built a career in the travel industry as well. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from George Mason University, becoming a teacher then a certified travel consultant and eventually owning her own travel agency for most of the past two decades. Joan and Tom lived in Dahlonega, Georgia before moving in 2004 to Sun City, Bluffton, South Carolina, where they spent their last years together.
Joan is preceded in death by Tom. Joan is survived by her son, Thomas Ludlow Papst, Jr.; her daughters, Susan Papst Bowman, Linda Papst de Leon, and Kathryn Papst Belk; her grandchildren Kathryn Bowman, Amanda Lucal, Laura Bowman, Michael Papst, Daniel de Leon, Alexandra Belk, Nathan Belk, Lindsey Papst, and Hannah Papst; her step-grandchildren Brooke Leon and Christian Leon; her nieces Carol Leed and Mary Padgett; her nephew Charles Hougland; and her sister-in-law, Harriet Hougland.
