Joan Ann (Walton) Spieth Sun City Hilton Head, SC On November 18, 2016 Joan passed away in the loving arms of her husband Frank. Surrounded by family, loving friends and neighbors. Joan succumbed to a twelve year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Over that time she was cared for by Frank with the loving help of “Angels” – Mary, Angela, Roseanne, Home Helpers – Jennifer – Home Helpers wonderful staff, many gracious neighbors, and The Low Country Hospice. Born February 6, 1938 in Strafford, Pennsylvania, the second of seven children, to Leonard and Blair Walton. Raised in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, member of the Phoenixville High School class 1956. Joan was married over sixty years to husband Frank. Survived by daughter, Peggy White of Radford, Virginia; son, Taz and wife Julia of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Hope White of New York City and Jordan White of Radford, Virginia; brothers, Leonard and wife Elaine of Malvern, Pennsylvania, James and wife Karen of Casanova, Virginia, and Samuel and wife Faith of Royersford, Pennsylvania. Joan was a loyal, supporting wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She always strived for perfection, be it tending her garden, cleaning the house, or in college. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Virginia with a degree in Horticulture of which she was extremely proud. She planned and organized their various moves to different parts of the country. Wherever they lived she was always active in the local Garden Clubs. She stood by her husband’s side, supporting his working career, and kept things together when he had to travel for business, requiring him to be away for some time. For several years she was the proprietor of a Floral Bouquet in Southwest Roanoke, Virginia. In January 1997 Joan and Frank moved to Sun City Hilton Head and always considered this the best part of their lives. She loved the community where they found so many friends and support. For many years Joan was very active in the Sun City Garden Club and for several years wrote Horticulture articles for the original Sun City paper. She was a talented artist, flower arranger and needlepoint person. Joan will always be remembered for her deep devotion to her husband and family, with a passion for flowers, plants and art. Interment will be at the Beaufort National Cemetery, with a private service. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to Memory Matters, P.O. Frank and his family invite friends and neighbors to an informal Celebration of Life from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Riverbend Lodge, Sun City Hilton Head.
