JoAnn Blough aged 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024 surrounded by her husband Daniel Blough and son Christopher Blough. Born in 1953 in Chicago, Illinois, JoAnn was a cherished member of communities in Gaylord, Michigan and Okatie, South Carolina. She was known for many things including her outgoing personality, love for gardening, talent for baking, and commitment to her family.

With undergraduate and graduate degrees from Illinois State University and Eastern Michigan University, she dedicated her 30-year career to public service as a professional educator who inspired her students in elementary to middle school with a special ability to connect with and advocate for special needs children.

As an avid outdoors enthusiast, she loved photography, diving, fishing, and hunting with her family. She also enjoyed winter sports including nordic and downhill skiing in northern Michigan. She was a lifelong learner and sharing her joy of discovery through photography capturing moments in the air and underwater as a certified diver. She explored undersea coral reefs with Dan by diving to renowned destinations in Mexico, Central America, Hawaii, and the Philippines.

Beyond her professional and personal interests, JoAnn was deeply committed to her family and friends. She shared a special bond with Dan, and their love story was an inspiration to many when they met in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in 1980. JoAnn was a devoted parent to her only son, Christopher, always providing support, guidance, and unconditional love as the family moved several times across Michigan in support of their careers. Their friendships were equally important, and they were known for being loyal and caring friends to many. JoAnn had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and appreciated, often going out of her way to help others in times of need.

JoAnn will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her vibrant personality, being an inspiring mother, and sharing her unconditional love with everyone around her. She will have a lasting impact on her family and friends.
