Jocelyn Clark, 101, passed away December 1, 2023. A lifelong resident of Ridgeland, South Carolina, he is survived by his wife, Andrea, and children Anne Zolotas, Catherine Morgan, Jocelyn Beyeler, Julian Clark, and Patrick Clark. He had nine grandchildren, Alexander Zolotas, Justine Zolotas, Charles Morgan, Jocelyn Morgan, Martha Louise Beyeler, Spencer Clark, Megan Clark, Julian Clark, and Emma Clark, as well as three great grandchildren.
A graduate of the Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut and Yale University, he served as a U.S. Naval Lieutenant JG in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Upon the festive occasion of his 100th birthday, he was presented with a letter of commendation from the Chief of Naval Services expressing gratitude for his courage and leadership which saved his ship and all her crew during a catastrophic typhoon in August 1945.
After the War, his working life centered around agriculture and aviation. He owned and operated dairies in Vermont and South Carolina. An interest in flying resulted in operating an FBO at a small airport in Colchester, Vermont, providing air charters, flight instruction, and related services. He also owned a crop dusting business in Middlebury, Vermont, and delighted in operating a fleet of Stearman biplanes for this purpose.
Above all, he had a passion for hunting and fishing. Autumn would find him in the grouse woods and duck marshes of New England, winter in the rice fields, quail woods, and dove fields of the Lowcountry, on foot or horseback, accompanied by friends, family, and a beloved retriever or pointer. Spring was reserved for hunting the hardwood bottomland habitat of the wild turkey.
After the death of his first wife, Catherine, he married Andrea. They had 46 wonderful years together, traveling the world to hunt and fish, and managing their South Carolina property as a sustainable, working tree farm.
Josh always had a twinkle in his eye, a firm handshake, and a story to tell.
