John Claire Cook, 72, of Hilton Head, SC and Brighton, MI, passed away Monday April, 24, 2017 after a hard fought 14-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born to the late Cecil and Augusta Cook, March 25, 1945, in Detroit, MI. John graduated from Bloomfield Hills High School in 1963 and was a graduate of Michigan State University. While in college John joined ROTC and went on to the United States Army serving overseas in Germany for 4-years as a Captain. John is survived by his wife, Lori Daymon Cook, his two sons, Rob Cook (Brighton, MI) and John Cook (Denver, CO), their mother, Karin Cook, his brother George Cook and his wife Barbara and their children and families, his brother-in law Bob Daymon and his wife, Pat and their children and families. He married Lori in 1992, and they built and enjoyed a wonderful life together. Always surrounding themselves with their family, they loved sharing their life through BBQ’s, cooking, golf, boat rides or a perfectly planned party with others. John and his brother started a commercial roofing company, CEI Roofing, in the 70’s that today is still based out of MI and a 3rd generation family owned roofing company. John was passionate about business and the roofing industry and strived to improve other people’s lives by sharing his eternal glass is half-full attitude. CEI was always an industry leader and never afraid of taking risks. At the end of his career John managed the International Division for the roofing company. The projects took him around the globe and he loved the adventures while also leading the roofers on their foreign explorations. Lori would join John on location during many of the overseas projects allowing them to enjoy international travel together, side by side. Over the years, they created some great memories and filled their homes with art and furniture from countries near and far. Although John loved working, he retired from the company and continued to share his positive attitude and outlook, stories or a drink and a smile with his friends and family, new and old. In his daily quest to be informed, he continued to follow the current events and politics of the day, wherever he was. He never missed his daily reading of the Wall Street Journal, daily newspaper or watching how the daily news was unfolding right in front of him. Never afraid to share his opinion with those listening or not. Always ready to work around the house, trim trees, clean windows and love life and family with all his heart. Every day was a good day, he always “Loved ya more” and always “LOVED HIS VIEW” on Hilton Head Island and East Crooked Lake Brighton, MI! There will be no formal immediate arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be planned in Michigan sometime this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of John C. Cook to the Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) to support Dr. Daniel George, MD and the DCI prostate cancer research program.
