John Patrick Cusack

The Feast Day of the Guardian Angels

John Patrick “John Pat” Cusack, 83, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Born in New York, John was the middle child and first son of John Patrick and Lily (McArdle) Cusack. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary (Joan), and is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Katherine Cusack; his beloved wife of more than thirty-six years, Elizabeth (Betty); his stepson and daughter-in-law, Eric and Lucille Vinceslio; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends who adored their “Unc.” Each of them found comfort in sharing words of love and laughter with him before our Heavenly Father called him home.

A proud U.S. Marine, John served his country honorably in Vietnam. His integrity, intellect, and sense of justice guided him throughout his life; he was a straight arrow, a deep thinker, and a fierce seeker of truth who was never afraid to speak his mind.

But what so many will remember most was his humor. John had a sharp wit and a quick tongue; he could fill a room with laughter.

He and Betty shared a beautiful life together, filled with devotion, faith, and countless inside jokes. A faithful child of God, John deepened his spiritual life upon retirement, attending daily Mass and becoming an active member of the Adoration Society of St. Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton.

To know John was to love him. His strength of character, keen sense of justice, inherent intelligence and sense of humor made him unforgettable. His was a pillar or strength to his family and loved ones. His presence brought light to every gathering, and his absence will be felt in every heart he touched.

He lived with conviction, thought deeply, laughed often, and now rests joyfully in God’s eternal embrace.
