John "Bud" E. Mcintire

John E. (Bud) McIntire age 93, born September 6, 1919 Struthers, OH - passed away February 8, 2013. John attended Struthers schools and upon his high school graduation, enlisted in the US Army (Feb 1940). John retired after 28 years of active service. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant (Officer Candidate School) 1944 and was integrated into the Regular Army Officer Corp and Associated with the West Point Class of 1946. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1967. John's WWII assignments were in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters. He served over seas in Puerto Rico, the Greenland Ice Cap and Europe (HG Comm. Zone, Orleans, France) along with numerous US assignments. A Signal Officer, 2nd Infantry Division, Commanding Officer 122 Signal Battalion and Signal Officer at USMA, West Point, NY. John was a graduate of the University of Maryland-Army Command and General Staff College; he also served at military schools and positions within private industry (AT&T) John was a lifetime member of the Military Officer Association 1st Infantry Division South Carolina and Sun City Veterans Association. He was the past president of the Downtown Savannah Optimist Club and the Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island, SC. He is preceded in death by his parents John P. and Coral Bell McIntire Kurtz ~ His first wife, Donna McGaffney McIntire; his brother; Charles H. McIntire, his sister Jean (McIntire) Stansell, and his daughters - Janey and Sharon McIntire. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Hamilton McIntire, his daughter; Gwen McDuffie, his son; John W. McIntire, Daughter in law; Amy and grandchildren Andy McGaffney McIntire and Katie Capps McIntire. Also survived by his step-children: Maureen Riordan, Roseann (Bo) Cencia, Thomas Hamilton, Kathryn Hamilton, Teresa Masters, Nine Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren. Burial will be at USMA West Point, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army or Wounded Veterans.
