John I Garside Jr.

John I. Garside Jr., age 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina, after a long illness. He was born in Hartford, CT and resided most of his lifetime in Connecticut and Massachusetts.He served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army during World War II.John Graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1949 and was an active alumnus until his death. Before retiring in 1986 he worked as an Assistant Comptroller for the State of Connecticut. Prior to that he was Regional Sales Manager for the General Foods Corporation and was a Sales Representative with Case Brothers/Boise Cascade, Connecticut.John resided in Manchester, CT for many years, where he was active in the community, local and state politics, an active Rotarian, South United Methodist Church Choir, and an avid sailor out of Mystic, Connecticut, and was on the ski patrol at Jay Peak Vermont for many years.He was preceded in death by his two children, John III and Jane. John is survived by his wife, Vivian Patterson Garside, Bluffton, South Carolina, his sister, Jean Danforth, Lake Helen, Florida and 5 grandchildren, a great grandchild, a niece and nephew.A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston, MA.Memorial donations may be made to Tidewater Hospice, 10 Buckingham Plantation, Suite A, Bluffton, SC 29910 or Memory Matters, P.O.
