John T. Graves Jr.

John T. Graves, Jr. died August 7th, 2017 after a long illness at the age of 79. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Anderson Graves and John Tamplet Graves, Sr., as well as his daughter Elizabeth Anne Graves. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Janice Benton Graves, children Michael (Valerie) Graves, Teresa Graves (Don) Porter, and John Tamplet (Barbara) Graves III. Grandchildren include Michael L. (Angelica) Graves, Jr., Tally Graves (D.J.) Harris, A.J. Brannan, William Graves, Richard Brannan, Shelby Graves, Colleton Graves, Cayce Graves and Kalyn Graves. Great Grandchildren include Luke Graves and Emma Graves. He is also survived by his brother Paul B. (Sandra) Graves, Sr. and many neices and nephews. John was a member of the Okatee Baptist Church. He served as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol, Low Country Squadron SC096 where he worked with the cadet program and senior member program, as well as serving as the Squadron Commander for several years. He was an FAA certified pilot and enjoyed flying. He also was a past member of the Ocean Waves Square Dance Club. He served on the Beaufort County Planning Commission as well as the Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Commission. Funeral Services will be at Okatee Baptist Church Thursday, August 10th at 2pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm with burial following the funeral service at St. Lukes Methodist Church.
