John William “Bill” Hoffman passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023, at Coastal Carolina Hospital. He was born May 28, 1939 in Newark, NJ, the son of Jacob and Ellen Hoffman.
Bill was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 51 years, Sallie Ann Hoffman who was the love of his life.
He is survived by two sons, William Douglas (Brooke) Hoffman, James Edwin (Kelley) Hoffman and a daughter Wendy Hoffman-Persons, his grandchildren Samantha Persons, Justine Allen, Jeffrey Hoffman, Nicole Hoffman, Anna Southwell, Cody DiBenedetto, and his great grandchildren Isaiah Allen, Levi Jensen, and Dacilyn Michael. He is also survived by one brother Edward (Gail) Hoffman, two sisters Agnes Halsey and Eleanor (Ed) Hoffman-Wolfe, a sister-in-law Jean (Tom) Giordano, and a brother-in-law George (Pam) Darling.
Bill grew up and lived in New Jersey most of his life. Bill enjoyed a love of cars, which is undoubtedly what led him to his career in the automotive restoration industry and his work as a limousine driver. He also had a great love for music, playing his Fender bass guitar all his life. He and his wife Sallie moved to the Hilton Head, SC area not long after his retirement and made wonderful friends. Bill always looked forward to his weekly gentlemen’s lunch gathering with his buddies Steve, Tony, Phil, Jim, Peter, Angelo.
He and his wife Sallie enjoyed volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity. Contributions may be made in his memory to Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity or Hospice Care of the Low Country.
