John Sidney Horton, 94, of Hardeeville, SC died January 11, 2014 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
He was born on November 28, 1919 in Robertville, South Carolina the son of the late Charles W. and Mary Edna Fennell Horton.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II who served in the liberation of the Philippines. He retired in 1979 from the Okeetee Plantation in Ridgeland. He began to work at Okeetee Plantation at the age of 17 taking over the same position that his Dad held.
He is predeceased by his step sons Martin, Bruce, and Gregory Joslin; two brothers, James L. and P. Reece Horton; and two sisters Ethelyne Rentz and Lillian Altman.
He is survived by his wife, Madeleine C. Horton of Hardeeville, SC; one son Charles E. Horton of Savannah, GA, and step children, Brian Joslin (Catherine) of Malaysia, Dennis Joslin (Deborah) of Hardeeville, SC, and Ronald Joslin of Hardeeville, SC and Donna Weissman (Marvin) of Beaufort, SC; one brother, C. Leslie Horton (Viola) of Columbia, SC and several grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Street, Ridgeland. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, Ridgeland with burial following at 1pm at Beaufort National Cemetery.
