John Berton Hubbard, 64, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2025. He was born in Fayette, Pennsylvania, on July 7, 1961. John lived most of his life in Beaufort and graduated with the Beaufort High School Class of 1980, where he made many lifelong friends. He attended the University of South Carolina for several years before choosing to join the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, aboard the USS Hawes.
After completing his military service, John moved to Madison, Alabama, where he spent several years and formed many more lasting friendships. In 1999, he returned to Beaufort to be near family and friends, and soon began working for Beaufort County Waste Management—a job he truly enjoyed and remained dedicated to until his passing.
John’s love of football brought him regularly to Beaufort High School games, often accompanied by close friends he cherished throughout his life. If you were fortunate enough to know John, you likely shared countless laughs and memorable moments with him. He was the life of any gathering and made it his mission to ensure everyone around him felt welcomed, uplifted, and loved.
He also had a tender heart for animals and devoted much of his free time to caring for the feral cats in his community, faithfully maintaining feeding stations to ensure they were cared for.
John is survived by his brother, Doug Hubbard, and sister-in-law, Dee Hubbard; their children, Ashley Hubbard, Amber Graham (Hubbard), and Doug Hubbard; his sister Brenda’s children, Lisa Ramsey, Brandy White, and Breann Cowhig; his brother-in-law, Gary Lang; and his sister Denice’s children, Jack Bullock, Gary Lang Jr., Doug Lang, April Beasley (Lang), Braden Lang, their significant other's, many great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Belflower and Herbert Hubbard, and his sisters, Brenda Johnson and Denice Lang.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that his love, kindness, and humility will live on in everyone he touched.
A celebration of his life is being planned and will be announced once details are finalized.
