John Impagliazzo

John Impagliazzo, 85, of Bluffton, SC, passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Julie Ann, daughter, Gina, and son in law, Kevin by his side. John was born in Ventotene, Italy, to Candida and Raffaele Impagliazzo. He attended grade school in Ventotene before moving to Rome, Italy, where he lived with his uncle, Zio Ferdinando Impagliazzo, and his eight children so he could continue his education beyond the sixth grade. At the age of 15, he immigrated to the Bronx, NY, and later graduated from West Islip High School in New York. John proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, fighting in the Vietnam War as a translator and interpreter, fluent in four languages. He was awarded a Purple Heart for a gunshot wound sustained in the line of duty. Following his military service, he earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering and dedicated 30 years of his career to Grumman Aerospace in New York before retiring at the age of 55. On July 6, 1968, John married the love of his life, Julie Ann (Banaitis), at St. Patrick’s Church in Lewiston, Maine. They built their home in Lake Grove, Long Island, NY, where they raised their three beloved daughters: Gina, Diana, and Luciana. In 2005, John and Julie moved to Bluffton, SC, to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family and friends. His larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He had a passion for cooking and loved visiting multiple grocery stores to find the best ingredients. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting. He was a proud member of the VFW of Bluffton, the Italian Club of Bluffton/Hilton Head, American Legion, Hampton Lake Armadillo, and a devoted parishioner of St. Gregorys Catholic Church in Bluffton,SC. John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Julie Ann; his daughter, Gina, and her husband, Kevin Brown of Savannah, GA; and his cherished grandchildren, Grace, Gabriella, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his sisters Irma (Bob) Caragol of Peyton,CO; Lucy (Bill) Ellison of Lexington, SC , and Serafina Brako of Long Island, NY; his brother-in-law Richard Banaitis and his wife, Joline, of Lewiston, ME; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Candida and Raffaele; his daughters, Diana and Luciana; amd his brother-in-law, John Brako. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd. Bluffton, SC. 29910. Visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with a service immediately following. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at Encompass Rehabilitation and the hospice team for their compassionate care and support.
