John W. Longworth

John W. Longworth, age 65, of Hardeeville, SC and formerly of Auburn, AL died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Hospice House in Savannah, GA. Mr. Longworth was born on October 13, 1950 in Alexandria, VA, the son of the late Ernest and Mamie Longworth. He was a graduate of Auburn University, earning his bachelor’s degree in education and ultimately his master’s degree in physical science. He proudly worked as a Professor for many years with the Savannah College of Art and Design, teaching physics, math, and astronomy. Outside of work, his passions were aviation, boating and astronomy. Mr. Longworth is survived by his wife of 44 years, Becky M. Longworth; daughter, Leslie Longworth Murr (Matthew); son, Chris M. Longworth; brothers, Lonnie Longworth (Rosy), Mark Longworth (Patti), and Rob Longworth (Wendy); and grandchildren, Davis and Madden Murr. A memorial service will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the SCAD Museum of Art Theater, 601 Turner Blvd, Savannah, GA 31401.
