John (Pete) McGaviskHilton Head Island, SCJohn (Pete) McGavisk, 79, died of cancer at his home on Monday, September 10, 2007. He formerly lived in Hillsborough, NJ. He was born in Olean, NY on October 6, 1927. He was the son of the late Roy and Elizabeth Turner McGavisk. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ. After college, he worked for Republic Steel. In 1964, he started his career at Foothill Acres Nursing Home as administrator and worked there until his retirement. Foothill Acres was one of his lifetime passions. He belonged to Belle Mead Rotary and was a past president. He was also a member of the Somerville, NJ Elks and a member of the former Pike Brook Club. He enjoyed his years golfing, biking, traveling and most of all listening to Jazz.He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Joyce; three sons: John (Margie) McGavisk Jr.; Peter (Pat) McGavisk; Michael (Sandy) McGavisk; one daughter, Susan (Tim) Miller; and six grandchildren, all of NJ.
